Large radii in the seat-and-back section lend the form a sense of flight and speed – and associations to a soft cloud from one of the paintings in the collection. The view of the paintings is only slightly obscured, thanks to the chair’s transparency, which, along with the reflective surface of the steel, also causes the colour, appearance and shadow forms to vary radically with changes in lighting. Like water – and clouds – the steel takes its colour from lighting and surroundings but always stands in contrast to the oak surfaces of the exhibition halls. A balance between ‘invisibility’ and presence.
